This week's summary is going to be somewhat abbreviated. Consider it a short...of the recap variety. As always, the episode starts with the elimination, and Shalini and Hilary are the ones to go home. That REALLY sucks, since they were, of course, the final two females in the competition. Shalini's film wasn't great last week, so I expected her to go, but I'm really bummed about Hilary. Not that there was a good choice to go in her stead, as the other three films were also strong, but yeah. It figures we'd wind up with all men. Good to know the glass ceiling is as firmly in place with the American public as it is in business.

On the Lot - Episode 110, When Two Worlds Collide
July 10, 2007We're back with another episode. I have to say that I'm not really sure who's going home tonight. The previous weeks have been pretty obvious to me, but this one...well, your guess is as good as mine.
At the house, Shira-Lee is quite nervous about her chances, even though she felt good about what she was able to do with her film. Shalani asks if Mateen is worried about his film, but he says it was an experiment, and he'll see how it went. Adrianna visits the contestants, sans Garry, and drops the ax, eliminating Shira-Lee, after what Adrianna says was a very close vote. Shira-Lee says the experience has changed the way she directs, but she says this isn't the end, since Garry isn't there to do it for her.

On the Lot - Episode 109, Another Director Voted Off
July 4, 2007So, the biggest question on my mind isn't who will be eliminated this week, but how Adrianna will handle the elimination.
Do you think she'll:
a. Visit the house again and deliver the news in a flashback.
b. Flash the name at the bottom of the screen but not otherwise mention it.
c. Fly the contestant into the Himalayas and drop him or her off, and the only way we'll know who went home is by the missing person's report filed by the family members.
d. Unleash wild dogs on the contestants, and whomever dies is the one to go home. The votes will have nothing to do with it.

On the Lot - Episode 108, One Director Voted Off, Recapper Cries at Lack of Episode Titles
June 26, 2007Tonight, someone goes home while six directors will screen six new comedies that they wrote, cast, directed, and edited over the last week.
Previouslies. After the screenings last week, Jessica thinks she's in the most trouble, while Jason, also worried, asks if anyone else understood his film (me, me, I get it!!). Garry, accompanied by Adrianna, joins the group while they're hanging out at the house. They're ready to deliver the results right then. This show is so nutty. They've gone from the traditional, boring, drawn-out elimination, to last week's no-frills approach, to not even doing it live. I don't know who the hell is running this show, but they need to put down the bong.

On the Lot - Episode 107, One Director Voted Off, Part 230948029384
June 20, 2007I'm just going to give up and put my faith in this show, because I can't see it being cancelled at this point. Which is good, because I like it, bland judges' comments, Adrianna's wardrobe and all.
We're back this week with the final five directors previewing their films and one of the directors from last week going home. At the house, Marty is bitter over Carrie's comments about his film, but in his individual interview, he says he thinks he might have come across too strong. Mateen agrees...I mean, Marty went toe to toe with Princess Leia. David thinks he's in danger as well because the judges hated his film, and Marty privately says he thinks they're probably the bottom two.

On the Lot - Episode 106, One Director Voted Off, Part Deux, aka This Show Needs Some Freaking Real Titles
June 12, 2007This show is turning out to be the cockroach of reality TV. For some reason, it just won't die, in spite of the abysmal ratings. That's not to say that I don't enjoy it, but I'm not one for long, drawn-out good-byes, you know?
In any case, Adrianna, et al are back for another round of three-minute films. Adrianna's dress is...really low-cut. It's actually sort of fabulous, though. If I had a body like that people would get tired of seeing my boobs all the time, because I'd be flashing them around like nobody's business. The guest judge this week is David Frankel, best known for The Devil Wears Prada; hopefully, he'll provide true critical feedback a la Michael Bay from last week.

On the Lot - Episode 105, One Director Voted Off
June 5, 2007On the Lot is back. Tonight's biggest excitement will probably be whether or not the show makes it through another week without being cancelled. The previouslies give us the rundown on who went home last week, and then Adrianna introduces the judges. Joining Carrie and Garry is tonight's guest judge, Michael Bay, director of The Rock, Armageddon, and the upcoming Transformers.

On the Lot - Episodes 103 and 104, Box Office Screening and Results
June 4, 2007Well, technical difficulties, or the wrath of God, have conspired to thwart my recapping efforts for this show. Just think of me as someone in charge of this show on FOX. Never knowing when it will air, what it will show...you know, business as usual.
The show has a new host (Adrianna Costa from CNN), a live audience, and, apparently, has decided not to waste anymore time with piddly, insignificant issues like showing us the third task that was alluded to last week and who was cut as a result. Instead, the audience and this week's judges, Carrie, Garry, and DJ Caruso (Disturbia) are ready to screen the one-minute films the final eighteen contestants made in the last week.

On The Lot: Auditions Round 2
May 25, 2007The remaining 36 directors are working on their second assignment, which is to write, direct, and edit a short film based on the logline "Out Of Time", all in a mere 24 hours. Previously, we could see that the team of Trever, Marty, and Jeff was having problems, in that Marty and Jeff could not get out of each other's way when directing their individual scenes. Jeff had no patience for Marty's contrariness, while Marty failed to respect Jeff's opinions (however bitchily they may or may not have been given) on his work. Seriously, at some point, I was thinking "Why don't these guys just go screw already and get over it?" Trever, meanwhile, remains wisely in the background. They weren't the only team to have problems -- Hannah couldn't get Kenny to do what she wanted while directing, and Kenny's indecisiveness and lack of technical knowledge frustrated Jessica.

On the Lot - Auditions #1, aka The Perfect Pitch
May 23, 2007For a handful of aspiring filmmakers, On the Lot begins with a chance to realize a dream. Fifty people have been chosen from twelve thousand applicants to compete for a $1,000,000 development deal with Dreamworks. Probably two thirds of the contestants are hipster types, cooler than, well, me, at least. They're here to follow in the footsteps of people like Steven Spielberg, (co-creator and co-executive producer of On the Lot whom we'll probably never actually see on the show). Here's hoping there's more Indiana Jones in this bunch than Waterworld.
