Big Love

Oh, Pioneers

This episode began abruptly, with Bill speaking at a UEB meeting about Alby. He tells the members that Alby has abused his power and threatened his family. Alby he should be removed from power and have his property and assets reclaimed. The board members are all a little freaked out and agree with Bill that Alby is going overboard, but feel that any major changes at this tumultuous time are a bad, bad idea. Just then, Alby walks in with one of his sons and some henchmen. Alby politely introduces Bill and his son, before demanding that Bill be removed from the compound. On his way out, we hear Alby's son whisper, "That's the bad man, right Daddy?"

Take Me as I Am

Barb picks up a newspaper and is a more than a little surprised to see a wedding announcement for her mother. Nicki buzzes around and asks if someone is getting married and Barb brushes it off as an old sorority sister. Wonder if Nicki knows Barb's mother's name? Bill saunters in and asks about the wild and unsupervised compound party that took place in his background. Nicki says she doesn't know what he means but in walks Ben who mouths "Sorry," to Nicki. Ben feels so bad that he was able to bust Nicki after she went off at him for sneaking out to see Brynn. Nicki admits that there was a party but that it didn't even get off the ground. Ben backs her up and says that the band didn't even get to play one song because Alby showed up. Barb, quick as anything, asks where she got the money to hire a band but Nicki snaps that Wanda brought them. Bill wants to know why the hell Alby was in his house and why Nicki didn't mention it to him. Nicki admits that Alby was here to snatch Kathy for Frank but that she got rid of him and besides Alby was totally devastated when she told him about Weber Gaming.

The Happiest Girl

A business convention finds Bill trying to let Margene pose as his real wife, with poor results. Nikki decides to throw an engagement party for Joe's second wife. Rhonda, Alby and Frank all try to use manipulation to get what they want.

After Alby took over Juniper Creek last week on Big Love and his sister Nikki stole his money, he is in a tizzy trying to find the culprit. Alby gets news that his dad, Roman Grant, is doing well. When Nikki tries to get a pass to visit for a ceremony to welcome Joey's new second wife, Alby denies it to her because she is banished. Alby later decides to take Roman home over the doctor's objections.

Bill has to go to a convention to meet with the gaming people, and wants to take Barb with him to the nice hotel. Margene keeps pestering her about how great the hotel's spa looks. Nikki doesn't want to go, and Barb is offended, and later that night Margene gets invited. Her sister wives are obviously upset by this, but say nothing when Bill and her leave.

Sarah and Heather are having some girl time when Rhonda walks in. They want nothing to do with her now that she has this even bigger ego over all the press she's getting due to being one of Roman's child brides. Rhonda wants Sarah to come to an event, but when Sarah says no and leaves, Rhonda threatens to expose Heather's lesbian feelings for Sarah unless she convinces Sarah to come and give Rhonda her bedroom. Lois and Frank continue to have hilarious misadventures. He drives up to the gas station, and while washing the windshields, Lois hands him the divorce papers. He refuses, then chases her with a shovel. Frank goes to Alby to butter him up in his attempt to get back at his sons and wife. In exchange for their deal, Frank demands he get Joey's potential second wife for himself.

At the convention, Margene is more annoying than usual. She talks the ear off of one of Bill's business associates, telling her whole life story, polygamy included, in about 10 seconds. Then she wants to buy everyone presents at the hotel gift shop: a scarf for Barb and a paper weight for Nikki. OK, I'll give her that one as actually being hysterical. Bill runs into some old friends who don't know his secret, so he pretends Margene is his secretary. In the next scene, she is bawling in the tub. I'd blame pregnancy hormones if she weren't always exactly like that.

With all the money Nikki stole from Alby, she throws Wanda and Joey an extravagant second wife party. Alby finds out and evilly tries to shut it down. When he gets Roman back home, he locks him away and procures countless sedatives like morphine and valium. Now that Barb has to show up at the hotel, Nikki changes plans and agrees to throw the party at her house.

When Barb shows up to the hotel, Margene is a freaking mess, accusing Barb of always ruining her good times. Hormones are raging. Bill, after a night of poker, shows up and tells Barb he got a room down the hall for her. Barb refuses, saying he's the one staying in the other room. Once again, the message and loud and clear - as good as it sounds, having multiple wives is a pain in the butt.

That night, things go wrong everywhere. Margene makes a huge scene at the dinner, telling Bill's business associates that she's his mistress. By the end of the night, Bill comes over and introduces his associates to his wife Barb, and his other wife, Margene. Awesome. "How many other wives do you have, Bill?" asks one of the businessmen. "Just one. She's at home with the kids." OK, that's kind of bad-ass for Bill Henrickson. In bed that night, Margene makes sense, possibly for the first time ever on this show, when she suggests Barb be Bill's wife for Home Plus, but Margene be his wife for the gaming business. Too bad Nikki's left in the cold until he invests in a third business.

At Nikki's engagement party, a pair of freaky twins hit on Ben. Alby shows up to ruin the party and to take Joey's potential second wife away. Alby accuses her of stealing his money, and she lets it slip that they now own a gaming business, the same one Bill stole from under Roman's nose. Uh oh.

As Alby possibly euthanizes Roman with morphine, Rhonda is on the TV, singing about being "the happiest girl in the whole U.S.A." I didn't realize that was a real song.

Circle the Wagons

Remember the shock at the end of last week's when Roman Grant was shot three times? Yeah, forget about that, because he's alive, and we learn this from Keith Olberman on MSNBC's Countdown . It's kind of hilarious thinking he would agree to film a fake news story just for this show. Nicki is a wreck, watching the coverage and seeing her mother and even Rhonda defend Roman's good name. Bill informs her about the gaming business he wants to by, and she's so catatonic with grief she agrees.

Kingdom Come

Bill is attacked from all sides, professionally by Roman and the Greens, personally by his three nagging wives. He also discovers his son is having sex. Believe it or not, it all works out quite nicely for him. Not so much for Roman.

It's the day before Christmas and Bill is swamped with scheming. His plan is to pit Roman Grant against the Greens, then reap the spoils of that war. His wives are nagging him for spending too much time on work, so he proposes taking the seventh day off to rest. Margene is naturally fine with this, Nicki blames Barb's anal retentiveness, and Barb is worried for him.

Good Guys and Bad Guys

Margene's lush of a mother visits, stirring up all sorts of trouble. Barb helps Wanda move back to Juniper Creek, but there's trouble waiting for them there in the form of Bill's violence-prone father, Frank.

Margene gets a phone call from mother Ginger, who's coming for a visit. The family goes into action mode, with Bill planning strategies. Margene is happily naive about how great it will all turn out. When Ginger turns up, she almost immediately starts doing a penguin impression. She then offers her pregnant daughter vodka and cigarettes. The nut didn't fall from that nut tree. At dinner with the sister wives, Ginger continues her track record of comically insulting her daughter, and Nicki takes an instant shine to her, naturally. After dinner, Ginger takes a smoke break, cracks a window and spies Bill kissing Barb. Let the hilarious misunderstandings ensue.

Big Love - Dating Game

Bill and Ana are officially dating, meeting for some Greek dancing at some summer fair and kissing over SnoCones. The purchase of Weber Gaming also seems to be looking up as Bill has somehow managed to score a boat out of the deal. New wife! New boat!

Heather and Sarah head to Heather's house after work and are surprised to find Rhonda sitting with Heather's parents and talking to a reporter and April Blessing, the youth advocate who, despite her best intentions, is messing everything up and is totally sucked in by Rhonda. I appreciate the fact that April was traumatized by polygamy and wants to create awareness, but she's obviously just discriminating against all polygamists. Sarah and Heather are alarmed by Rhonda's media attention and when they ask her about what she said to the reporter, Rhonda insists that the Henrickson's are safe.

Big Love - Vision Thing

Lois pulls up to Joey's house and gets out with the baby. Joey inquires about his wife's whereabouts and Lois replies in that nonchalant way that makes me love Lois, "Oh...I had her committed." Joey freaks and gets in the car, presumably to go to the hospital. Now, I can understand him being upset about Lois committing his wife, but really he should have been on top of that...uh, the first time she served up an antifreeze cocktail. Joey has his problems but he usually seems to have been able to recognize that Wanda was a little off. He has his wits about him more or less. I guess the risk of exposing their residence on Juniper Creek might have contributed to their reluctance to treat Wanda, but come on now. Joey could have gone to jail for attempted murder. That alone should have been enough for him to put his foot down. Thank god for Lois.

Sarah is engaging in some rather ungodly behavior with her liberal heathen Democrat boyfriend when her cell phone rings. It's those jerks she works with and they tell Sarah that her grandma is at the restaurant. Sarah arrives at the restaurant and is greeted by Rhonda, who has been spending her nights on the streets. But apparently the novelty of homelessness has worn off and she needs Sarah's help, otherwise she'll be sent back to the compound and forcibly impregnated. Ew. The next day, Sarah probes her mom for answers about what she would do if they found Rhonda. Barb finally spills the beans that Rhonda was behind their exposure, but that they have a responsibility to her. Sarah then confesses to Ben that she knows where Rhonda is. Ben pressures her to tell Barb, but Sarah snaps back with her knowledge of Ben and Brynn's indiscretions. That shuts Ben up.
