Ugly Betty: Crush'd (Episode 221)

Lindsay Lohan's stint on Ugly Betty is officially over and Betty moves on to scoring with her next door neighbor. She waits and watches out her window to see when Jesse is coming upto the building in the morning and runs out to give him a coffee. She's so not obvious. She and Jesse have a good conversation and then he mentions that he doesn't have a TV and really wants to watch some documentary. She insists he come over to her place and watch it, he takes her up on the offer, it's a date.

Betty heads off to work, she arrives to find a naked Amanda strutting around. Amanda says she was kicked out of her apartment and has nowhere to live. She walks around naked and in exchange security doesn't mind letting her stay at the Meade offices. Only Amanda. Later, Betty is singing in a horrid pitch when Daniel nudges her. He doesn't have much to say except to brag on himself for being so genius in hiring Conner as CFO and playing Wilhemina.

A short time later, Daniel and Wilhemina have a meeting with Conner and he seems to agree with Daniel on everything which infuriates Wilhemina. She asks Daniel whats going on, he tells her that she's been played and then leaves.

Hilda and Justin come over to help Betty get herself and her apartment ready for the date with Jesse. Just before Jesse is to arrive Betty ushers Hilda and Justin out. A minute later the doorbell rings, but it's not Jesse, instead it's Amanda and she tells Betty that Meade security kicked her out and she needs to stay with her. Gee.. how did Betty get so lucky? Without waiting for an answer Amanda struts inside, her dog in tow, and she guilts Betty into letting her stay saying she did offer to help earlier in the day. It turns out as popular as Amanda may seem she doesn't actually have any friends, besides Marc. Betty doesn't know what else to do, she goes to Jesse's and tells him that she'll have to cancel. Jesse says that it's ok, he wasn't going to be much company anyway because his band just had a gig cancelled.

Conner gives a list to Daniel of cuts that he thinks need to be made in order for Meade to save money. Wilhemina decides her only way to get back at Conner and Daniel is to blackmail Conner, she sticks Marc on the case to dig up any dirt.

Over the next day or two we see the drama unfold between Betty and Amanda now that they are roommates. From Amanda's dog eating Betty's lunch to Amanda making Betty share the bed and tickle her back, and tell her she's pretty. Betty is talking to Christina about the drama with Amanda and her crush on Jesse, Amanda overhears the crush part and asks who she's crushing on. Betty doesn't tell Amanda exactly who the guy is, but Christina and Amanda help her decide to ask the mystery crush to the Meade party coming up.

Marc is having some drama of his own with his love. Cliff, who we haven't seen in a long time, shows up at Meade and springs the idea of the two moving in together on Marc. Marc freaks out and starts making excuses why he has to go. Betty goes to Jesse's and tells him that Meade is having a party about global warming awareness, she's just about to ask him to go with her as a date but he immediately jumps to the conclusion that she wants his band to play at the party. She tries to interrupt and tell him that's not it but he hugs her and tells her that she's a "snow day." What a good line.

Betty goes to Daniel and tells him that she found a great new band to play at the Meade party. He says it's no problem they already found someone, that someone being Mariah Carey. She says Jesse's band would be better, they'd be fresh. Daniel starts being all sarcastic, acting like he's dialing up Mariah to cancel on her for Jesse's band. Betty walks away defeated.

Marc gives Wilhemina some dirt on Conner. She tells him to schedule a meeting with Conner. She thinks she'll be able to blackmail him into coming to her side. Betty and Christina grab lunch at a street vender. As they're chit-chatting about the party drama Amanda once again butts in, but this time she actually comes up with a genius idea. Since Betty can't have Jesse's band play at the actual Meade party, she can put together an after party and have him perform there, and Amanda is all for the idea because she figures she can charge people at the door and help pay off her credit card bills.

Claire informs Daniel that Wilhemina and Conner will be meeting and she doesn't like that at all. He tells her that everything will be fine, he's got it handled.

Betty puts up a flyer for her after-party but it's lame so Amanda helps by creating a new flyer that simply reads "the roof friday get on the list." Betty doesn't like it and doesn't think it'll draw much attention but in no time everyone is buzzing about the mystery party and Amanda organizes a list of more than 300 people attending. Betty is excited!

Wilhemina and Conner have their meeting and it gets off to quite a sexy start. Conner massages Wilhemina's hand after she complains of being stressed. After the massage Conner makes a couple drinks for them and Wilhemina starts fantasizing about him. She envisions them kissing, but then snaps out of it and realizes she better get out of there ASAP before she does something she might regret. She tells him that she just remembered she has a dinner, she'll have Marc reschedule.

The next day, Betty turns to her family for help now that she has to throw a party for 300 people. Betty says she should cancel because she really can't afford the party, but Justin says that cheap is so chic now. He then suggests they do a "south of the border" theme, which means Betty can use past party decorations. Score!

Marc finds out that Wilhemina cancelled on her meeting with Conner and figures out that it's because she's hot for him. Wilhemina tries to deny it at first and then says that it can't get in the way of ambition. Her plan to blackmail him is still on. Marc walks out and is met by Cliff who surprises him again at the office. Cliff is there because Marc hasn't been returning his calls about them moving in together. Marc starts rambling excuses, Cliff tells Marc he gets it and walks out.

Betty helps Daniel get ready for the Meade global warming awareness party, she thanks him for donating to the after party. We skip to the after party which is decorated to the max and looks sizzling! Ignacio, Hilda and Justin are there helping out. It's about time for Jesse's band to start but Jesse is nowhere to be found. Betty finally finds him outside and he's pouting that the are too many people, he's scared. She talks him into it and he tells her that she's beautiful. This brightens up her day, well, more like year.

After the main Meade party Daniel finds out that Conner secretly met with Conde Nast execs to discuss selling a couple of Meade titles. Daniel had previously told Conner he was totally against this. Daniel starts questioning if Conner is now playing for team Wilhemina.

Jesse's band performs and they are a huge hit! Amanda is spending the whole time trying to figure out who Betty's crush is. Her first thought is that Ignacio is her crush until Marc informs her that it's Betty's dad. Duh! Marc tells Amanda about the drama with him and Cliff, Amanda gets sidetracked and runs off, just about that time Marc notices a guy a few feet away and they smile at each other. Meanwhile, Jesse starts performing another song and dedicates it to a special someone, aka Betty, though he doesn't mention her by name. The song talks of the girl being like a "snow day" like he told Betty she was earlier. Betty goes to Hilda bursting with joy that Jesse actually wrote a song about her. Hilda tells her that she needs to go ask Jesse out, so Betty goes to find him. Betty goes to Jesse's apartment but as she's knocking on his door she hears someone in her apartment and goes to find that it's Amanda and Jesse making out. She stands there in shock staring at them.

Wilhemina, Daniel and Conner all arrive at the Meade party around the same time. Wilhemina confronts Conner first and threatens him with the blackmail information. Then Daniel comes up and tells Conner that if he's going to team up with Wilhemina he'll be out the door. Conner tells them to quit acting so childish. He goes off on Wilhemina with all the dirt on himself, and then tells her and Daniel that if they want him to do the job they hired him for then fine but he's no one's bitch.

After finding Amanda with Jesse, Betty storms out and Amanda runs after her. Amanda just thinks Betty is upset because she was making out with someone in Betty's apartment. Betty tells her that she's the worst, most inconsiderate roommate ever and to get out.

Wilhemina clears things up with Conner and tells him she'd like to start over with a clean slate. He gets a call... from his fiance, and steps away. Obviously Wilhemina is devastated, her new crush is already engaged.

Marc ends up going back to the apartment with the guy he smiled at earlier. Just after he leaves the guy's apartment he runs into Cliff. Cliff apologizes, Marc freaks out and asks Cliff to marry him. WTF? Obviously they won't be getting married in California since Prop 8 passed.

Daniel sees Betty sitting outside by herself. She tells him what happened with Jesse and how she should have known when he said she was beautiful that he just meant on the inside. Daniel tells her that guys go for the obvious, even though it's totally stupid, and he tells her that she's only 24 it's ok for her to have a crush and act a little silly, but he also says she needs to believe him when he says that she is beautiful.

Betty goes back to her apartment and Amanda is just getting ready to leave. Amanda says she doesn't want the money from the party and leaves it for Betty. She then sarcastically tells Betty that the guy she was making out with earlier is so stupid, and totally not worth it. Betty realizes she may have overreacted slightly since Amanda clearly didn't know it was Jesse who Betty was crushing on. She tells Amanda that if she needs to stay there for a little while longer she's fine with that. Amanda then tells Betty that she's actually lucky because at least when guys fall for her she knows they are really in love with her and not just her looks. Betty smiles and tells Amanda to clean the apartment, Betty goes to the roof to clean up the party.

When Betty gets to the roof she spots Wilhemina and tries to sneak away, but Wilhemina calls her over. Betty grabs a seat next to Wilhemina and they share an energy drink while looking out over the city. They seem to have finally found some common ground now that they are both reeling from losing their crushes.
