Ugly Betty: Betty Suarez Land (Episode 218)

We begin this week at the courthouse where things are about to begin for Alexis to be punished for pushing Christina down the stairs. There is a mob of reporters waiting outside. A town car pulls up and they all run to it assuming it's Daniel, but instead it's just Betty pretending to be Daniel. Daniel took the back entrance to get into the courthouse to avoid all the media. Way to go Betty!

Daniel is at the courthouse to meet with Alexis to tell her about a plea deal or something but that's not the real reason he's there. He's actually there because Alexis wants to tell him the dirty little secret she's been keeping. As they're sitting across the table from each other, a few cops are stationed around the room observing the meeting, Alexis breaks the news to Daniel that she's actually Daniel Jr's father, not Daniel. She tells Daniel that she's going to forfeit her parental rights and give them to Daniel, and the media never has to know about any of it, it'll just be between them. Daniel seems calm at first but then out of nowhere he leaps across the table and tackles Alexis. Of course the cops all jump to action to try to separate them.

Betty calls Hilda to tell her how proud she is of Daniel for trying to help Alexis. Little does she know that Daniel is rolling around on the courthouse floor trying to beat up Alexis. I'm not so sure that really qualifies as helping. Hilda really doesn't care much about Daniel and quickly changes the convo to her and Tony. She asks Betty if they can borrow her apartment for a few hours again to "talk." Betty says no at first but then gives in. Betty then spots Gio and gets all excited. She tells Hilda she can't wait to ask him about his trip to Rome (yes... the one she turned down). Hilda says that probably isn't such a good idea considering she kind of threw it back in his face. Betty says she didn't throw it back in his face and has a flashback of her nicely declining. Betty hangs up with Hilda and runs to Gio, arms wide open. Gio says he's not talking to her and shoves a flyer that has Betty's picture and "BANNED" across it. Betty doesn't understand, she thought they were fine, but apparently Gio doesn't feel the same way. He tells her how horrible the trip was, being in one of the most romantic places by himself. He does talk about one highlight, some cow and heavenly cheese, but then the cheese got taken by officials at the airport. Betty apologizes over and over, but Gio just keeps going on and on about how horrible things are, and how much he hates Betty. And, he tells her that she's banned from his life. Ouch!

Betty goes to Daniel's office, he is back from the courthouse and has his hand in a dish of ice. Betty rants to him about Gio and then finally notices that Daniel is icing his hand. Betty asks about it but Daniel says she doesn't need to know everything, then Daniel Jr shows up and Daniel has to leave. Before he goes he mentions a chef he knows that has the type of cheese that Gio was raving about. Betty forces him to call the chef to get the cheese so that she can use it as a peace offering.

Daniel and Alexis are back on good terms apparently. He heads back to the courthouse with Claire to hear what plea deal the DA is going to give Alexis. But, they get bad news. It turns out the DA has changed the charges from a misdemeanor to attempted murder. Claire tells them that she donated quite a large sum to the DA's election campaign and will take care of this. Later, Claire calls the DA but he tells her that his hands are tied. And, he's not lying. Wilhemina has his hands tied to the bed and I think you know what, or should I say who, is about to go down.

Hilda and Tony have an indoor picnic at Betty's apartment. Tony tells Hilda that he's going to end things with his wife officially, and then he leaves. After Tony leaves the apartment and walks downstairs we see his wife appear. She must've followed him to the apartment to see who he was having an affair with. She sees "B. Suarez" on the door and assumes that must be who it is. This isn't going to be good for Betty.

Daniel learns that Daniel Jr's family in France have swooped in to take him back to France now that Alexis has forfeited her parental rights. Daniel is going to have to fight hard if he wants to keep Jr. He asks Betty to pick up Jr after school and take him somewhere, anywhere. She asks why but Daniel doesn't fill her in on all the details, he just tells her that he's going to lose Jr if she doesn't do this.

Betty anonymously places an order from Gio's business to be delivered to her apartment. He still doesn't know that she has her own apartment yet so he'll have no clue it's her. She plans on giving him the special cheese when he shows up. So, Gio shows up at the door, Betty answers and before he can protest too much she pulls him inside. Daniel Jr is there and a towel is in front of him. Gio starts to smell the cheese so Jr uncovers the cheese and Gio about has a heartattack. But, his happiness doesn't last long, he grabs the cheese and tries to leave. Betty won't let him though and steals back the cheese and passes it to Jr. This leads to a standoff and eventually Gio sitting down to hear about Betty's wonderful Summer adventures. She tells him that it's all because of him that she was finally able to break out of her shell and take the risks that she did over the Summer. He takes this as an insult though, that she is better because they broke up. He then throws at her that she lives in "Betty Suarez Land." She says she doesn't, he finally tells her that she broke his heart. Just then Betty's phone rings.

Jr's French family shows up at Daniel's office and thanks him for taking such good care of him, but now they want Jr back. Daniel says that his assistant picked him up from school and he hasn't been able to get ahold of his assistant. Just then Amanda comes into Daniel's office and overhears what Daniel says and tells him that Betty is at her apartment. What a moron! As I was saying before, Betty's phone rings and it's Daniel. He tells her that Jr's grandparents found out that she had Jr at her apartment and are on their way now. Just then Betty's door buzzer goes off and she -- not thinking -- sends Jr to answer the buzzer. It's a lady asking if "he's" up there, she knows he is. Betty thinks it's Jr's grandparents but it's actually Tony's wife back to get revenge. Jr lets the woman in without thinking so Betty has to think fast. She enlists Gio to take Jr in his delivery van. Gio doesn't want to at first but Betty say it's for Daniel.

Gio, Betty and Jr zoom around NYC in his delivery van trying to get rid of anyone that might be following them. They decide, along with Daniel, to go to Coney Island. Daniel is going to meet them there.

Wilhemina visits Alexis in prison and offers her a deal. She says she'll get the DA to drop the charges if Alexis gives her all of her stake in Meade Publishing. Alexis says she's scared of prison but will not screw over Daniel again even if it means spending 100 years behind bars, she tells Wilhemina to go screw herself and walks away.

Tony's wife drops by Hilda's salon. At first you think her and Hilda are going to go round-and-round but then you have to remember that the wife still thinks it's Betty, not Hilda, that's having the affair. She tells Hilda that she suspects that Betty is having an affair with her husband and she just wants Hilda to pass on a message. She tells Hilda to tell Betty to please end the affair because she still loves her husband and wants to give their marriage another try. Hilda is almost in tears but trying to hold it together to not give it away that she's really the one with Tony.

Daniel meets with Betty and Gio at Coney Island, Jr just went to get some cotton candy. Daniel tells Betty and Gio that he and Jr are going to have to fly to some country where there aren't extradition laws. He asks them if they know of any countries. Betty asks what is going on, he finally tells her that he's not Jr's father. Jr is standing behind Daniel at this point and overhears, he throws the cotton candy to the ground and runs away. Daniel runs after him trying to explain. Daniel, Betty and Gio try to find Jr but to no luck. Betty talks to Daniel and tells him that this isn't a good idea for him to become an international fugitive if the grandparents are good people, which they are and Daniel admits to that. Betty tells him that sometimes when we want something so much we get caught up in it and no one else matters, but the fact is that those people still do matter and you have to think about that. Just then Gio comes up and says he knows where Jr is.

Wilhemina and Claire discuss the twisted plan that Wilhemina has up her sleeve. Claire comes up with a plan that may just make Wilhemina happy, and not result in the family losing the entire Meade Publishing empire. Claire suggests that Alexis will split up her stake in the company giving half to Daniel and half to Wilhemina's unborn child. Then, Daniel and Wilhemina can both have 50% and be Editors-in-Chief. Didn't they try doing this before and it didn't work? In return for this Wilhemina has to get the DA to drop the charges. 

Betty,Gio and Daniel find Jr hiding under the boardwalk. Daniel tells Jr that he wants him but his grandparents also do. Jr suggests that Daniel fight for him, he wants him to be his father, but Daniel tells him that he's not his father, maybe he can be his "really cool American uncle" though. They hug.

Tony stops by to see Hilda. She tells him about his wife stopping by and that she's still in love with him. He says that he ended it with her though, that their marriage was done before he even met Hilda. But, Hilda tells him that she doesn't want to be the reason that they end things, she doesn't want to be responsible for that. She lost a person that she loved and she never got a second chance, she would never wish that on anyone. Tony finally accepts that Hilda is done and leaves. Ignacio overheard what happened and hugs Hilda.

Betty gives Gio the "heaven from a cow" cheese. He thanks her and goes to leave, but she stops him. She tells him that she admits that sometimes she does live in Betty Suarez Land but only because she really thought they could be friends again. She tells him that she is really sorry for hurting him. He tells her that he was wrong for trying to ban her from his life. He says that she will do great things. And, that's pretty much how they leave things. I guess they are sort of friends again but not really.

Marc thinks that Wilhemina is upset about losing her battle with Alexis, but Wilhemina tells him that he's short-sighted. She says that just a little while ago she was nothing more than a salary employee now she owns 50% of a publishing empire, only 50% left to go.

With Wilhemina getting the DA to drop charges, Alexis is now a free woman. She decides it's probably best to get out of the country for a while though. She has a tearful goodbye with Daniel and Claire and then heads off to France. Daniel gives her his permission for her to get to know Jr better considering he is her child. Claire tells her that she lost her once and doesn't want to lose her again, Alexis promises that she'll be back. She and Claire hug, and then she and Daniel just nod their heads at each other. Alexis starts to walk to the helicopter but then Daniel runs after her and gives her a hug. It looks like all is well with the Meade family.

The Suarez family has come togther to console Hilda who is very upset over her break up with Tony.

It's not surprising to see the Suarez family come together in tough times, but I think it really shows how much Betty has rubbed off on Daniel and the entire Meade family for them to really come together in tough times. Now that Wilhemina has 50% control of the company I think the Meade family is really going to have to stick together in order to keep things together.
