After last week's shocking ending with Brooke being beaten by an intruder in her store, you'd think that this week things might be calmer. You'd be mistaken though. Things in Tree Hill only get more complicated this week and we're left with perhaps the biggest shock in the show's history.
But, before we get to the shocking moments we begin with a cutesy moment of Luke and Peyton laying in mind, Luke telling Peyton how he used to jump on the bed and his mom would always yell at him. As he's telling the story to Peyton in LA, Jamie is jumping on his bed in Tree Hill and Haley is there to yell at him. Maybe this is a hint that Jamie is actually Luke's kid? Just kidding. Luke and Peyton begin jumping on their hotel bed. Eventually they collapse in exhaustion, Peyton on top of Luke in a ready-to-go position, but just then the hotel maid walks in. Damn kids these days! Then, Brooke calls Peyton to get her help after the incident the night before, but Peyton is too busy going on and on about her good news of getting engaged to Luke. Brooke doesn't want to ruin Peyton's happy mood so she just pretends like everything is ok.
Skills drops by to see Deb, but to his surprise Haley is still there. Haley tells Skills that she's onto him and he starts to freak, but then Haley explains that she knows he's just there for Deb's wonderful breakfast. He plays it off like that is the reason. But, he and Deb do get caught kissing later by Jamie. On the way to school Jamie asks Deb why she and Skills were kissing. She denies it and says that just "wouldn't be right" since Skills is so much younger. Jamie surprises her though when he tells her that he thinks it would be cool... "grandpa Skills," he says.
Carrie is still torturing Dan. She starts the morning off feeding him a delicious bowl of oatmeal and cockroaches. Yum!
At b-ball practice Quentin talks Nathan into joining the guys for a practice game. Despite his obvious back pains last week it seems things might be going better, or at least Nathan is pretending things are better.
On the jet back home Luke tries to get Peyton to join the mile high club, but she resists. He jokes that he'll just join by himself then which gets a shriek of disgust from her. Then, they discuss wedding plans, Peyton says she'd like to find a place that they both like to get married when they get back. Luke asks her to move in with him. Peyton definitely wants to move in, she tells him she's going to spend one more night with Brooke though because she sounded sad on the phone. If only she knew why Brooke was so sad. And, speaking of Brooke, she calls Deb to meet her at the COB store. When Deb arrives she instantly knows something horrible is wrong because the store is trashed. When she sees Brooke's face and she has bruises all over the place, black eyes, and a fat lip she starts to cry. Brooke refuses to cry though. Deb asks Brooke if she called the police, but she refuses to do that as well. She tells Deb that they stole the computer, cash from the register, and the sketches of her new designs. Brooke says she has plenty of money to cover it all and doesn't want to get anyone else involved. It's clear Brooke thinks her mom is behind all of this, afterall why would anyone else go to all the trouble to steal sketches. Brooke asks Deb if she can teach her how to shoot a gun.
After school Haley picks Jamie up but they notice that a dark SUV like Dan's is sitting across the street. Haley finds it odd and later tells Nathan about it. They don't really discuss it much but you can tell neither of them are happy that Dan is coming around again.
Quentin gives Jamie a gift -- it's a small keepsake box that Quentin used to put all of his treasures in. And, Jamie is wearing a red cape so Quentin jokes that he wishes he had one for himself. That night Jamie asks Haley if they can make Quentin one too. Quentin and Haley really have come a long way from the start of last year. On Quentin's most recent paper he got an A+. After class he and Haley have a heart-to-heart about what he wants to do with his life, besides basketball. He tells her that he wants to get married and have a family. He says that he thinks about having kids sometimes because of how much he enjoys spending time with his little brother and Jamie. Quentin has really become a good guy. He's actually playing better on the court, treating people well, and doing good in class. Haley and Nathan should start up their own program for helping troubled teens. They're like miracle workers.
Haley arrives home to Jamie walking on Nathan's back. Apparently he is still having some back troubles. She wants to talk to Deb, but Deb is at Skills' apartment looking to get advice on what to do about Brooke. Deb doesn't tell Skills that it's Brooke she's getting advice for, she just tells him that someone she knows is relying on her but she doesn't know what to do. Skills tells her that whoever it is must really respect her and has turned to her because she's the one person who may know what she's going through. Deb thinks his advice is great and is overjoyed that they had an actual conversation rather than just having sex.
Carrie returns from watching Haley pick up Jamie from school. She tells Dan that when Jamie goes missing soon Nathan and Haley are going to think Dan took him and he'll be the main suspect. She thinks she's so smart. Later, Dan finally regains his ability to speak and tells Carrie that her plan sucks. This just further infuriates Carrie.
Peyton finally gets home. When she walks in the door Brooke tells her not to freak out, and then she walks out and Peyton sees her face. She asks Brooke what happened and Brooke makes up some story about Lindsay coming by and them getting in a fight. Peyton doesn't buy that story so Brooke tells her another made up story about how she got tangled up in laundry and fell down the stairs. Peyton does buy this story. I don't get why Brooke just doesn't tell the truth. Keep this secret from everyone is only going to backfire. Later, Brooke lays her head on Peyton's lap and Peyton tells her what a good friend she is. Brooke asks what good it does. Peyton tells her that it leads to great friends, a great life, good kharma. Brooke says she doesn't believe in kharma because she's been a good person and bad things still happen. Peyton asks what bad things that is, but Brooke says she doesn't want to talk about it. Peyton then asks if she doesn't believe in kharma then what she does believe in, Brooke tells her she believes in justice.
Luke stops by to tell Haley that he and Peyton are engaged. She's shocked but happy for him. After Luke leaves Jamie asks where Deb is, Haley tells him that she's napping, Jamie says she sure has been tired a lot lately. She's tired from all that sex with Skills. Haley goes to talk to Deb but first she checks Nathan's pain pills and notices a lot are gone. She immediately jumps to the conclusion that Deb has been tired lately because she's popping pills again. Haley confronts Deb, but Deb denies that she's taken any pills and reminds Haley that Nathan is the one who has had back pain lately. So, Haley and Deb sit Nathan down and ask if he's been taking the pills. To Haley's surprise Nathan admits that he has. He tells her that those are his pills for his back pain, he's been having back pain so she's been taking the pills. He says he could probably play through the pain but the pills really help. Haley apologizes, but she asks if Nathan will go see the doctor just to make sure everything is ok. He agrees to go see the doctor tomorrow.
The next day, the doctor tells Nathan that he needs to be extremely careful playing basketball because if he injures himself again he may end up back in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. After they leave Nathan can tell that Haley is really concerned. He tells Haley that he'll slow down, but she tells him that she knows he can't and that's part of the reason why she loves him so much.
Jamie and Luke help Peyton start moving her stuff. Jamie asks Luke if he's going to have to be the ring bearer again, he says he doesn't want to because it didn't end up so well last time. Luke agrees that he doesn't have to be. Before Jamie, Luke and Peyton leave with her stuff Peyton tries to get ahold of Brooke, but she won't open her door or answer her cell. Brooke is just laying on her bed in a state of depression.
Dan tells Carrie to call the number on the back of the pager. Up until this point she hasn't figured out what the pager was for. She just assumed that he was old fashion and hadn't stepped up to a cell phone. When she calls the number she finds out that it's for heart transplant patients. She asks him what that's about. He tells her that without the heart transplant he'll die anyway, so basically what does he have to lose. And, everyone knows he's going to die soon so that kind of ruins her plan of blaming the kidnapping on him. Carries storms out of the house freaking out that her plan is falling apart.
Deb stops by to talk to Brooke. Brooke doesn't want to talk, but Deb makes her. She tells Brooke that she too was once in that state of depression and didn't know where to turn so she turned to drugs and alcohol, but she's not going to let Brooke resort to that.
Nathan plays a quick game with Quentin and then heads home for dinner. Quentin tries to get him to play harder, but Nathan takes it easy knowing what the consequences could be if he doesn't. Before Nathan leaves Quentin tells him that he's happy to be apart of his comeback. Nathan tells him to meet him at the riverside court in the morning.
Quentin leaves and stops to get some gas on his way home. He hands the guy at the counter a $20 and tells him to put it on pump #1. The guy takes the money but just stares at him. Quentin isn't sure what's up with the guy and sort of takes a look around and sees a body on the floor in a back room with a trail of blood. Quentin instantly knows he's in the wrong place at the wrong time, and he doesn't know what to do. He turns around and then we see someone shooting a gun. We see Brooke at the shooting range with Deb. But, then Lucas gets that horrible middle of the night phone call and it's bad news. Quentin has been shot and killed.
The episode ends with that. Next week is the funeral for Quentin. I'm wondering if the same guy that killed Quentin is behind Brooke's assault. Does anyone else think so? I'm not sure how they'd be connected, and if they are then does that mean Bitchtoria isn't behind the assault on Brooke?
