The Hills: Better Off as Friends (Episode 403)

"He should be about this big": Image courtesy MTV.com."He should be about this big": Image courtesy MTV.com.Whitney tries to counsel Lauren on how to break up with Doug, who is moving too fast for her. Whitney can't stick around for long, as she has to haul ass to New York in her new role for People's Revolution.

Whitney can't haul fast enough, as Kelly sends her to a casting as soon as she lands (and drops off her bags at her hotel). Things may not be as they seem, though, as Whitney gets to styling, photographing, and generally ogling the parade of hot male models.

Kelly: This is called multi-tasking in the power bitch world.

One model, Alex, piques Kelly's interest, and Kelly basically orders him to have drinks with her and Whitney that night. Whitney is too shy, but can't refuse in the face of Kelly's determination to find Whitney a man. Alex is cute in a generic Abercrombie kind of way, and he went to USC just like Whitney! Actually, he transferred to Columbia, but they have something of California in common. He's from Fresno! Maybe he should have kept that to himself.

Of course, Kelly bails on drinks so Whitney meets Alex alone at her hotel, where they talk about how in New York, fashion is considered part of a larger culture. You can see five different people on the street and instantly get five totally different life stories. Ironic, considering all we've seen since Whitney's been in New York are a bunch of rich White people, but whatevs. They walk around SoHo, enjoying the beautiful night air, before saying good night. Whitney gives Alex a chaste kiss on the cheek, but it looks like she's falling for New York.

Spencer: "I regret so much not throwing some of this cake in LC's face."

Meanwhile, Spencer still hates Lauren. He says as much to Heidi over a meal at Beverly Hills steakhouse Cut. And that's pretty much it. Stephanie is pretty much dead to him, though Heidi would like him to reconsider. Later in the episode he perks up a bit when Stephanie tries to bribe him with a cool-looking book about the CIA. And that's about it.

Lauren: My type is... somebody i've already dated.

With Whitney out of town, Lauren meets Brody at Sushi Roku for some boy advice. He teases her about her own romances, but he's still a friend and listens when she says she's not feeling it with Doug. Even with Brody's support, it doesn't make it easier for Lauren to make the drive up to Doug's house, and tell him that she's just not feeling it.
