30 Rock: Sandwich Day (Episode 214)

Noooo!: Tracy tries to get Lutz to spit out his sandwich while Frank grimaces.Noooo!: Tracy tries to get Lutz to spit out his sandwich while Frank grimaces.Who knew sandwiches could be so appealing? I mean, apart from Joey on "Friends", who knew people could get so worked up over sandwiches as much as the TGS cast and crew do? As these sandwiches come but once a year, brought in by the teamsters from a Brooklyn sandwich shop only they know about, they must be awesome. Wish someone would bring me a sandwich.

There are only enough sandwiches so that everybody gets exactly one, which proves a problem when Lutz, Tracy, and Frank end up eating Liz's sandwich. To get her a new one, the writers agree to a drinking contest with the teamsters. Enlisting Jenna as a ringer, they see their hopes of sandwich glory dashed when Jenna starts to lose it after just a few shots. But then Tracy's alcohol monitoring ankle bracelet is disabled, and Kenneth realizes he can in fact stomach the liquor, and they help Jenna to victory.

So Liz has a sandwich -- how about a boyfriend? Ex-boyfriend (and Cleveland) resident Floyd reappears, stranded in New York after a flight back to Ohio falls through several times. The first time, Liz is able to turn on the charm (and get Pete to employ some key lighting and wind machines) to make her seem appealing. But Floyd doesn't seem to bite, and with Liz's behavior becoming increasingly erratic when she catches Floyd in the city, there's little hope of reconciliation. Liz was just freaked out by the possibility that Floyd was dating someone the last time she called him, nine months ago. Though he has to let her down by saying that there have been other women, he wants to be friends. Liz does too, so she lets him keep a key to her apartment. She may yet have her boyfriend sandwich and eat it, too.

Hmm. That didn't sound right.

Jack is keeping a vigil at Don Geiss's bedside, when he think he receives what he thinks are signs that he's to move on. With Devon taking control at GE, and his office, the view from his new office on the scary 12th floor is not so hot. Jack ends up taking a government job, as the Homeland Security Director of Crisis and Weather Management. I can't imagine that this is going to end well.
