The Hills: Paris Changes Everything (Episode 319)

Lauren lights up Paris: Lauren gives Mathias a sly smile after a Vespa tour.Lauren lights up Paris: Lauren gives Mathias a sly smile after a Vespa tour.I know this post is running on the late side but for serious, you guys? It's been kinda crazy. All these changes in my tv viewing schedule, the return of shows affected by the strike -- if there's anyone who could appreciate my stress, it would be Lauren, right? Anyway, I'll resume more detailed recaps next week. When I've had a chance to, like, breathe and put on some more liquid eyeliner, my own personal tribute to Lauren.

Lauren and Whitney arrive in Paris to assist Teen Vogue editor Kimball as he manages a photo shoot of the girls making their debut at the Bal de Crillon. There are debutantes to dress, sure, but the girls have at their disposal a cool driver, Stephane, Andreas at Albert Ferretti to dress them for the big night, and an adorable French rock band, Rock & Roll, to show them Parisian nightlife. I swear my work trips have never been so fun.

The trip isn't without drama. Lauren gets a call from Audrina back in Los Angeles saying that Brody was seen out with another girl he referred to as his girlfriend. Who cares that it's only been two days? Loser. Anyway, rocker Mathias (who looks years older than Lauren, by the by) charms Lauren with his laidback demeanor, and a tour of Paris on his Vespa. But what about Brody, Whitney wants to know. What about him? The girls are ready for change when they return to the reality of L.A. -- Lauren in her love life, and Whitney in her professional life. A desk at Teen Vogue is beginning to pale in comparison to styling.

Heidi takes some time at home in Colorado, seeking solace from stepdad Tim and sage advice from mom Darlene. Too bad her time is interrupted by Spencer, who follows her to Crested Butte to apologize. Ugh. Even sister Stephanie thinks it's a bad idea. He brought roses! But Heidi and her parents aren't having it, and it isn't long before Spencer is sent packing without her.

The clothes: Whitney and Lauren's outfits were adorable for Paris. Yes, even Whitney's creamy knit hat and Lauren's coat with the oversize check pattern. I'm not sad that Lauren's first dress for the Bal got burnt, as I loved her modern Grecian goddess look. So graceful and versatile, taking her from a ballroom to the backseat of a scooter.

The boys: Mathias and the boys in the band were appropriately scruffy. Maybe I'm an old tart, but you know who I thought was yummy? The girls' driver, Stephane. So warm! So knowledgeable about where the cool shops were!

The accessories: Their second night in Paris, the girls walk to the Eiffel Tower with the band. In ultra-high heels. Lauren's were Louboutins -- that's my girl!
