Pirate Master - Episode 108 - Spirits in the Material World

Didn't we boot your asses already?: Former Pirates come back for one more shotDidn't we boot your asses already?: Former Pirates come back for one more shotPreviously on Pirate Master... Annie recapped episodes 101 through 107. She couldn't recap this week's episode, which is where I come in. Thanks to such resources like the Pirate Master Wiki and previous recaps, I think I've figured out what's going on. Even if I can't remember anybody's names. I mean seriously, everybody's tan and has unkempt, dreadlocked hair. It's madness!

A beautiful full moon shines down on Picton Castle, where Nessa expresses sadness over the ejection of Joe Don in the previous Pirates' Court. Kendra gets called out for going back on the promise she made to the Red team, and casting the vote that sent Joe Don home. It's only after the vote's been cast that she wonders why she did something "the Triad" wanted her to do in the first place. Ken, this might have been a useful thought to have before the freaking vote. I'm just saying.

Rough seas have the crew scrambling to get through their chores. Officer Joe pronounces the waves "just awesome. We're bouncing around like a bunch of drunken clowns." Creepy! Cameron reads the next clue pulled from the Chest of Zanzibar. As the next expedition will have them travelling down the "River of Death", it would seem to be the time to scare up some ghosts. Acting as the Ghost Crew -- the 7 former pirates eliminated previously in the game, back for the expedition! Competing against the remaining pirates, who form a single Black team, the Ghost Crew would get to pick which three of their opponent would be black spotted if they won. Subsequently, there would be no Captain or Officers for the next expedition. If Black prevails, the game resumes as normal. Officer Jay is kinda nervous to be facing so many people he was responsible for eliminating. Officer Ben felt tension and resentment, while Louie was excited at the possibility of playing what we can only hope is a good game. Nessa expresses a wish for gold as the Black and Ghost crews towards the river to look for clues and, ultimately, gold.

The Black Crew takes the lead and finds the clue, with the Ghost Crew not far behind. The clues, wooden coffins, are lashed to trees on the riverbank. Ripping off the coffin lids, which contain the clue, both teams continue down the river to find the key to the treasure. Both teams hope to be first, so they can also take time to sabotage the second team as well as focus on treasure-hunting. Though the Ghost Crew catch up, they don't catch the Black Crew before they successfully rig the sabotage point. Ghostie/Chippendale dancer John climbs a vine to retrieve the Ghost key while the Black team move even further ahead. But did they go south when they should have gone east? It's not long before they realize that they are lost. The Ghost crew make up in time but then realize that at some point along the way, John dropped their key. D'oh! So while they all return to the sabotage point and search for the key in the river (oy!), the Black Crew rights itself to the cemetery, which directs them to the Angel Tree where they may find the gold they seek. The Black Crew find the tree, and therefore the treasure, while the Ghost Crew ponders strangling John.

The Ghost Crew emerge from the jungle to meet Cameron. Cameron wants to know what happened, and they tell him about losing the key in the river. They screwed up their last chance at revenge, and are sent back. The Black Crew appear, triumpant, carrying the treasure of 50 gold coins. Cameron gives Captain Azmyth an opportunity: pick new officers or keep the same ones? As they've won four challenges in a row, he keeps Ben and Jay. Nessa, for one, is tired of the Triad, and is pretty sure everybody else, too. Nessa has the Royal Pardon, though, so at least she gets to decide something at the next night's Pirates' Court. She confides to Louie that she was hoping the Ghosts would have won, as a change in the officer lineup would have been a good change. Nessa thinks, though, that there is still a chance of getting rid of Azmyth if she can get the rest of the pirates to join her in a MUTINY!

Jupiter decides to sell out the others and mention the possibility of mutiny to Azmyth at diner. She thinks she's being a friend, which is all well and good, but why did she have to bring this up at dinner in front of the rest of the crew. It identifies her as the instigator of a mutiny, and marks her as a candidate for departure. Azmyth discusses what I will now call "Jupiter's outburst" with the officers, who start talking about black sports.

Pirates' Court day! Captain Azmyth passes out the letters. Jupiter, Kendra, and Laurel have received black spots -- no surprises there. The crew spends the day discussing who could get cut, with conversations going back to Jupiter's outburst from the night before. Jay thinks Azmyth is still a viable target, if the mutiny is more than just a myth. Or is that "azmyth"? Yeah, it's a bad joke, but it's not my crappy name, it's his!

"All pirates to midship." Cameron begins Pirates' Court, reminding the officers and the marked pirates that they will all have their say before votes are cast. As ever, there is the possibility of the Royal Pardon for a last-minute save. Azmyth explains the Officer's choices:

  • Kendra: She's always the slowest member of her team. Kendra defends herself by saying that while she is not the fastest, she is improving. She also mentions that she is good at finishing her tasks.

  • Jupiter: Though she is to be admired for bringing up the crew's resentment, there is the mutiny that may have happened. She loves being on the ship, and doesn't miss the chance to suck up to Azmyth in her defense.
  • Laurel: She has an attitude. She responds that she does not, but then shows attitude when Azmyth tries to interrupt her.

In response, Captain Azmyth sees no reason to change the lineup when the Triad has been so successful. And now it's time to cast ballots. Before Cameron reveals the ballot result, he reveals that Kendra won the royal pardon, bidding $4,000. She ended up not needing it, though, as she didn't receive a single vote. She still has to pay Nessa, though -- sucka! Laurel is safe, as well, and she takes her seat, leaving Azmyth and Jupiter. The unanimous ballot sets Jupiter adrift, and Azmyth is quick to execute this task. Jupiter is surprised that she was cut, and can only attribute Azmyth's success to the fact that he's changed so much that he is no longer the same person she befriended. Boo hoo!
