Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound. Look, up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's...Darby Shaw, your intrepid recapper. I may not be much on tights and flights, but you'll feel like you're super speeding as we run through a "wham, bam, thank you, ma'am" recap of the last several episodes. Sadly, this doesn't leave a lot of time for jokes or comments, but I can assure you I'll be in full swing with my recap of the next new episode. Fear not the loud noise you hear...it's just the sonic boom left in our wake. Or me dropping my beer bottle as I mainline six Smallville episodes in a row. Why, yes, I am a recapping superhero.
First stop, "Hydro," guest starring Tori Spelling as the Daily Planet's own bitchy gossip columnist Linda Lake. After she and Chloe face off over ethics, Lake is confronted by a baseball player whom Lake has accused of steroid use. He chases her to a fountain, where he mysteriously drowns.
Lana tells Chloe that Lex proposed, but she hasn't answered. Chloe rightfully guesses this is because of Clark.
Meanwhile, Jimmy and Lois meet behind the Talon so Lois can buy some photos of the Green Arrow, one of which shows a scratch across his shoulder. Inside, Chloe finds Lake's article on Chloe's chat with Lana. When Clark comes in, Chloe breaks the news about Lex's proposal. Clark leaves, determined to talk to Lana.
At the Luthor mansion, Lex brings breakfast - and the paper - to Lana in bed. He's upset, and Lana can do little more than apologize. Clark shows up to talk to Lana, but instead, Lex drops the bomb about Lana's pregnancy.
Jimmy tells Chloe he thinks the ballplayer was murdered, while Lex offers Lake a blank check to find out whatever she can on Lana and Clark.
Oliver and Lois' yoga practice devolves into a makeout session. When Oliver loses his shirt, Lois notices the cut across his shoulder and leaves, reviewing Jimmy's photos of the Green Arrow's cut in the elevator.
Lois bitches to Clark about people with hero complexes keeping secrets. She tells a nervous Clark that Ollie is the Green Arrow, but she needs proof before she can confront him.
Clark angrily confronts Chloe about keeping Lana's pregnancy a secret, but Chloe says his is not the only secret she keeps. A contrite Clark hugs her, while water in the bathroom coalesces into Lake.
The next day, Lana confronts Chloe about the article, but Chloe says she needs Lana to trust her; Lake was caught in the last meteor shower, and Chloe suggests they investigate.
Clark offers to help Lois discover the truth about the Green Arrow. Lois balks but finally agrees, arranging a group movie night with Oliver and Clark. She "forgets" ice and leaves to buy it, giving Oliver and Clark a chance to put their own diversionary plan in action.
Outside, Lois plots a fake attack but is attacked for real. Even when Jimmy intervenes, the Green Arrow has to save them. Lois kisses the Green Arrow while Jimmy takes pictures. Oliver shows up and plays dumb, and, while Lois apologizes, Clark speeds away and pulls off the Green Arrow hoodie, dazed.
At Lake's office, Chloe sets up a spycam, while Lana waits in her car on the other end. Chloe finds that Lake is going to publish Clark's secret, but Lake find Chloe, who smashes Lake's laptop before Lana hears the truth. Lake chases Chloe outside, but Chloe pushes her into the street just as Lana drives up and runs her down. Lake turns to water and runs off of Lana's car into a drain.
Jimmy shows up with his photos of the Green Arrow, but he's disappointed to find the Green Arrow disappeared too fast to be properly photographed. The next day, Chloe and Lois regale Clark with Lois' story of meeting the Green Arrow. Chloe lets Clark know she's on to him while Lois gloats about what a great kisser the Green Arrow is.
At the Daily Planet, Lana tells Chloe she's upset that Chloe is keeping Clark's secret from her. Lana then visits Clark, asking him to trust her, but he says it's too late; he knows about the baby. Lana admits that Clark won't be able to see her the same and leaves.
At the Luthor mansion, Lana admits she went to see Clark, and that she still loves him, but she also loves Lex, who deserves better. Lex persuades her of the depth of his feelings, and Lana agrees to marry him.
Next up, "Justice." At the Daily Planet, Chloe is attacked by Dr. Caselli, a Belle Reve physician who's authorized the transfer of numerous patients from the facility. He's knocked out by someone other than Clark: someone with super speed. Clark chases Chloe's rescuer, finally catching up with Bart Allen (Episode 405, "Run").
Later, Chloe informs Clark that Luthercorp has already sprung Caselli from prison. Bart shows up and claims to be legit now, working as a courier.
When Oliver and Lois are interrupted by another business matter, Oliver agrees they need a vacation. Lois happily leaves to pack, while Oliver gets a text message that says, "GAME ON."
Lionel is concerned about the break-ins related to 33.1, but Lex isn't worried. Instead, he focuses on a shot from a security cam of someone speeding by, whom he wants to capture for testing. When they leave, Bart shows up and hacks Lex's computer, then meets up with the Green Arrow.
Clark accuses Lionel of helping Caselli get out of prison. Lionel shows him Lex's camera shot and advises Clark to be more careful, but Clark says the photo isn't of him.
At the Kent Farm, Clark confronts Bart about stealing from Luthercorp, but Bart says it's complicated. Later, Clark fills Chloe in on Bart's secret. She helps him hack Bart's phone, and they find he's been talking to Oliver.
At another Luthercorp facility, Bart tries to hack another computer but is incapacitated. Armed men surround him as Lex approaches.
Clark accuses Oliver of using Bart for his own vendetta against Lex, but Oliver says they're working to stop Lex from building an army of super freaks. Since Bart hasn't checked in from his last job, Arthur Curry (Aquaman, episode 504 - "Aqua") and Victor Stone (Cyborg, episode 515 - "Cyborg") are there to help find Bart.
Meanwhile, Bart awakens and refuses to tell Lex whom he's working for, so Lex activates Bart's cell, which will electrocute him if he stops running for even a millisecond.
Oliver's team tries to determine where Bart is, and Clark says he may know someone who can help. He fills Chloe in on Oliver's team, and Chloe produces a document showing some major equipment shipments being made to Luthercorp's Ridge Facility. Clark tells Chloe to take her info to Oliver and heads to Ridge.
Oliver is dumbfounded that Chloe knows their secrets, but she assures him they're safe before telling him about the Ridge Facility. When Oliver pulls up the plans, Chloe spots a room with lead shielding, which she suspects means they're refining meteor rock.
At Ridge, Clark bursts into the meteor room and is trapped as the door shuts behind him. Lucky for him, Chloe remotely guides Oliver's team into Ridge. Victor heads separately while Oliver rescues Clark. He leaves for another mission, and Clark saves Bart.
Victor and AC hack into the mainframe computer, and Lex and Oliver face off. Oliver warns Lex he's planted bombs in the facility. Back with Clark and Bart, Oliver tries to convince a reluctant Clark that destroying Ridge is a good idea. When Chloe confirms everyone is safely out, he agrees.
In the coolest scene, since, well, ever, Clark, flanked by Oliver, Bart, Victor, and AC, strides away from the building, highlighted by the explosions in the background. Forgive me for cheesing out, but it's awesome.
The next day, Lois shows up, ready for her vacation, but Oliver, proving it's not easy being a superhero, tells her he's leaving and not coming back anytime soon.
At the Luthor mansion, Lionel recaps the night's losses: no Bart, no more Ridge, no more 33.1. Lex tries to implicate Clark, but Lionel covers, saying he had dinner with Martha and Clark during the break-in.
At the Kent Farm, Oliver's team invites Clark to join them as they fight Lex's global 33.1 operations, but he declines for now so he can take care of the Phantom Zone escapees. Chloe and Clark say goodbye as Oliver leads his team out to "save the world."
"Labyrinth" begins with something invisible attacking Clark at the Kent Farm. He awakens to find himself an inmate in a mental institution, where other inmates make fun of him for his "superpowers." Clark, who now has none of these powers, is dragged away screaming.
Dr. Hudson, Clark's physician, explains to Clark he's a paranoid schizophrenic who created a fantasy world to live in, but Clark is convinced Lex is responsible.
Clark is approached by another inmate who calls him Kal-El and says he's believes Clark, because he, too, is from another planet: Mars. He warns Clark not to trust anyone. Clark nabs a janitor and steals his clothes, making his escape.
At his loft, Clark finds Lana, who lives there. She joyously greets him but becomes concerned when she discovers he escaped from the hospital rather than have a treatment that's supposed to cure him. Clark leaves to find Martha at the Luthor mansion.
Clark tries to tell Martha what's going on, but she says she married Lionel and just wants Clark to be well. When he tries to force her to leave, she sounds an alarm. Security guards chase Clark outside, but Chloe drives up and rescues him.
Chloe takes Clark to the Talon, convinced that both Luthors are after her and Clark. She wants to break the story to keep them safe, but Clark wants to see Lex first.
A bitter, angry Lex further challenges Clark's beliefs, accusing Clark of causing Lex's accident on the bridge five years before that resulted in the amputation of his legs. Lex says he's sorry he didn't run Clark down instead.
Clark returns to the Talon to find it abandoned and unused. Lana shows up and tells Clark they've been together since kindergarten, and they can work through this. Clark starts to waver but then insists he has to see Chloe.
Chloe says they have to take down the Luthors, but Lana comes in and tells Clark that Chloe was in the institution with him. Clark is torn over whom to trust but follows Chloe when she leaves. Downstairs, Luthor security guards shoot and kill Chloe when she pulls out a gun.
At the institution, Dr. Hudson tries to convince Clark that he's built a fantasy world for himself comprised of little bits and pieces of his surroundings. Clark spots several objects and pictures with names he recognizes (33.1, the Phantom Zone, Raya), and his denial finally starts to break down. Hudson leaves to prepare his treatment.
Clark's Martian friend tries to convince him to kill Dr. Hudson to release himself from the Phantom that's invaded his mind. Clark balks, but the man is insistent that Clark believe in himself.
Lana shows up and again tries to convince Clark to take the treatment so they can be together. When Hudson begins, however, Clark fights the orderlies and chokes Hudson, until a brilliant red energy from Clark's real body is captured in a stone by the Martian Manhunter - Clark's inmate friend. He leaves as Chloe appears, and Clark grabs her into a huge hug.
Clark realizes he's still in love with Lana. He dances around the subject with her the next day until Lex shows up, and Clark seems both sad and relieved to have things back to "normal."
Red Kryptonite makes another appearance in "Crimson," when Lois buys a love potion lipstick that the seller promises will make her fall in love with the first person she sees, who just happens to be Clark.
Lois shows up at the farm the next day, complete with hooker boots, Red K lipstick, and a mixed CD for Clark. When Lois drapes herself on Clark and looks poised to kiss, Clark distracts her and speeds away.
Lana asks Chloe to be her maid of honor. Chloe agrees after making sure Lana isn't losing her friends at Lex's behest. Lana says she won't ask Chloe to betray Clark's secret, if Chloe will stop pretending he doesn't have one.
Clark goes to the Daily Planet to solicit Chloe's help with Lois. Lois appears, drags Clark into an office, and finally kisses him, activating the Red Kryptonite in his system. Clark enthusiastically responds, and Lois figures out she's kissed Clark before. She mistakes him for the Green Arrow, but Clark rats Oliver out and says he isn't even in Clark's league.
Lex shows Lana the nursery he designed for their baby. He wants to announce her pregnancy at their engagement dinner that night, but Lana says no. She wants people to know she's marrying Lex out of love, not because of the baby.
High above Metropolis, Clark grabs Lois and leaps from the Daily Planet building to Oliver's balcony. Clark and Lois start to get busy, but Clark spots Lois' invitation to Lana and Lex's engagement party and decides to crash it.
Chloe tracks Lois' behavior to the herbal oil seller, but Jimmy accuses Chloe of being jealous of anyone that could come between her and Clark. Chloe tells Jimmy to back off but agrees he can handle talking to the herbal oil woman while Chloe hurries to Lana's party. He meets with the oil vendor, who gives him a Kryptonite antidote to Lois' lipstick.
Lex and Lana's party is in full swing when Clark and Lois burst in. Clark accuses Martha of being more a Luthor than a Kent nowadays, Chloe of waiting anxiously for Lana's marriage so she has a chance with Clark, and Lana of choosing Clark's enemy for her rebound guy. He tosses a baby rattle at Lex and toasts "Baby Luthor." When Lex attacks, Clark throws him aside and drags Lana off, over Lois' protests.
Lois mopes over Clark while Martha takes off to find him. Jimmy meets Chloe at the mansion with the antidote, and when Lois is spritzed, she regains her senses with no memory of what happened.
Clark takes Lana to the barn, where he tells her he still loves her and wants to marry her. She says it's too late and runs to meet Lex when he comes in. Clark tells Lex that he and Lana just kissed, and Lex pulls out a gun. Clark overpowers Lex and starts to choke him until Lex stabs him with a chisel. Martha shows up at that moment, felling Clark with Kryptonite and sending Lana away. Lana spots the mangled chisel before she leaves, and Martha comforts Clark, who's now Red Kryptonite free.
The next day, Martha advises Clark to start being honest with himself, because the Red K didn't make him a different person, it just made him less inhibited. Lois shows up and awkwardly broaches her actions, but Clark feigns ignorance about everything except the mixed CD.
Jimmy suggests he and Chloe take a break from each other when she refuses to call Clark out on his behavior. Chloe belatedly denies her feelings for Clark, to no avail.
Lex and Lana work through their issues from the party, with Lex saying he understands Clark's actions, as he would be capable of anything if he lost Lana. In the hallway, Lex discusses Lana's pregnancy with her doctor, who says it isn't the most typical pregnancy, but that everything is on schedule. Meanwhile, Lana studies the mangled chisel she spirited away from the barn.
Next up, "Trespass." Lana is wondering over the bent chisel when she receives a message on her phone: a photo of her taken the moment before. She runs into the hallway and finds Lex, who orders a full search of the mansion when nothing is found in the room but an open window. Lana hides the chisel and doesn't tell Lex about the photo, saying she was just nervous.
Lana stays with Chloe when Lex leaves on a business trip. Lana tells Chloe about the chisel but says she'll work on that on her own, if Chloe will help her find out who's stalking her.
Chloe shows up at the barn to tell Clark about Lana's stalker. She asks him to talk to Jimmy about Louis Esposito, a photographer to whom Chloe tracked Lana's phone message. Clark agrees when Chloe says she and Jimmy broke up. Chloe warns him that Lana is close to discovering his secret.
Lana tries to hack into Chloe's computer files on Clark before she hears someone outside the door. She goes downstairs to investigate and finds a box with a negligee and a note: "I want you to wear this when I kill you." Lex's head security guard shows up and figures out they have a problem.
Clark asks Jimmy for help tracking the paparazzi photographer after telling Jimmy he only likes Chloe as a friend.
Lex calls Brady, his security head, and orders him to take Lana to Luthercorp. Lana, however, says she wants to go the one place no one will think to look for her.
Martha sets Lana up in Clark's room for the night, where Lana promptly starts to go through his drawers. She receives a call from her stalker and finds Brady bleeding in the hallway. He grabs her leg in his death throes, sending her flying down the stairs.
At the hospital, Lana and the baby are fine, but she's given a sedative to bring down her blood pressure. Another of Lex's security team, Mack, tells the doctor to transfer Lana to a room in the old, abandoned wing of the hospital so his team can secure it.
Meanwhile, Clark and Jimmy investigate Esposito's office, where they find pictures of Lana, including some of Lana snooping around Clark's barn. Martha calls Clark to tell him about Lana's attack, and Clark takes off.
Lana wakes up, alone and disoriented. She follows the ringing of her phone into the hallway, where she's chased by Esposito as he snaps photos of her. Clark swoops in and throws Esposito aside, just as Mack shows up. He shoots Esposito in the hallway, claiming he had a gun, and then takes Lana home.
At the mansion, Mack reveals himself as Lana's true stalker. He says Lex is infecting her, and he's just trying to save her. Lana hits him with a bottle and runs to her bedroom. When he finally breaks in, Lana has already left through the window.
Clark and Chloe look through Esposito's pictures of Lana. Clark spots one for a benefit Martha was at the night before and figures out that Esposito couldn't have taken the picture of Lana in her bedroom.
Mack chases Lana onto the roof of the Luthor mansion. In their struggle, they crash through the skylight into Lex's study. Mack is killed by the fall, but Clark catches Lana.
At the Daily Planet, Chloe tries to convince Clark that Lana's snooping may bring her closer to his secret, but she's proven her loyalty to him by lying to Lex so he wouldn't find the chisel. Jimmy comes in, and Clark leaves him and Chloe alone to reconcile.
Lex wakens Lana the next day, telling her he trusts her and her decision to go to the Kent farm. When he leaves, Lana searches for the bent chisel but is dismayed to find it gone.
Lex visits Clark, who apologizes for trying to kill Lex, sounding weak at best. Lex gives Clark an invitation to his and Lana's wedding, telling him he wants Clark there to see what he lost.
In "Freak," Lana and Chloe go bowling for Lana's bachelorette party. While an enamored employee uses telekinesis to "help" Lana, a blind man removes his glasses and points to Lana's admirer. Later, the employee is abducted, and Chloe is almost run down when she tries to intervene.
The next day, Clark and Chloe find the kidnapped guy, Daniel Kim, safe and sound, with no recollection of his abduction.
Lex questions Lana about Chloe's motives for going outside during the kidnapping. When Lana leaves, Dr. Bethany, the man who was guiding the blind guy around the bowling alley, says Tobias is impatient for his cornea transplant, so they shouldn't stall any longer.
Chloe and Clark figure out people infected with meteor rock are being abducted. Chloe spots Tobias pointing at Daniel in a picture from the night before.
Chloe and Clark visit Tobias, who's a former classmate. Clark accidentally knocks off Tobias' glasses, sending him into intense pain. Outside, Clark uses his super hearing to listen to Tobias call Dr. Bethany because he's "found another one."
Lana asks Chloe if she thinks Lex is behind the abductions, and Chloe admits she's suspicious. She tells Lana about Tobias' ability to identify infectees.
Clark confronts Bethany, who claims ignorance about anything unusual with Tobias. Clark creates a distraction and steals Bethany's laptop.
At Chloe's apartment, a frantic Jimmy is worried when Chloe is nowhere to be found. Clark gives him Bethany's laptop to hack while he speeds off. He questions Tobias about Bethany's whereabouts, thinking Bethany abducted Chloe to draw Clark out, but Tobias, who thought Bethany was helping people, says Chloe was abducted because she's meteor infected.
Chloe awakens in the middle of a terrifying medical procedure where "doctors" insert a large needle into her stomach for DNA extraction.
Lana asks Lex if he's heard of Tobias Rice and his special ability, since Lex is usually interested in meteor powers, but he says he's never heard of him.
When Jimmy and Clark meet the next day, Chloe shows up, remembering nothing about her abduction. Clark tries to convince her she was taken because she was a witness.
Bethany tells Lex about his stolen laptop, and Lex orders Bethany to bring Tobias to him, unharmed.
Lana visits Tobias and offers to pay for his surgery if he'll stop identifying people infected by the meteor, since she's concerned that someone who saves people will be hurt. Tobias, however, says Clark isn't infected.
Chloe hacks Bethany's laptop and finds a map overlaid with a GPS grid that shows the location of meteor infectees. Chloe spots herself on the map when Jimmy bursts in with the news that Daniel just died in a car accident. Chloe sends Jimmy off to get more information and forces Clark to use his heat vision to burn a hole in her shoulder and remove a GPS device, since they've realized infectees are being tracked and killed. Tobias, it seems, is next.
Bethany goes to Tobias and tells him it's time for his surgery, but Tobias shuts off the lights and leaves the room, returning with a gun. Bethany tries to kill Tobias and Lana with a high-voltage stun gun, but Tobias shoots him. They struggle, and Lana gets the gun and fires at Bethany just as he fires at Tobias. Clark whizzes through, deflecting Lana's bullet and blocking Tobias from the stun gun. Bethany is killed by the ricocheted electricity. When Lana turns on the lights, she finds her bullet in the cabinet behind her.
Outside, Clark "shows up" and tells Tobias he has a friend (Oliver Queen) who will pay for his surgery. Tobias says Lana offered to do the same thing to protect Clark, but he told her Clark wasn't infected. After Tobias is gone, Lana shows Clark the bullet she found, and Clark thanks her for what she offered to do, even though he's not infected.
Lana confronts Lex about Bethany, but Lex swears on the soul of his unborn child that he's telling the truth about not being involved with Tobias.
Clark finds Chloe, stressed out at her apparent infection. She's terrified she's a ticking timebomb that will end up dead or in Belle Reve when her powers show up, but Clark says he'll be her "personal bomb squad." Meanwhile, Lex reviews a video of Chloe's procedure, dictating instructions for someone to keep a close eye on their latest test subject.
Well, that's it. Whew. Tune in Thursday for what's sure to be an emofest of major proportions as Lex and Lana prepare to tie the knot.
